Library Media Centers have always had a core mission, beliefs and standards. There have always been objectives that all students must be able to know and do. This year librarians combined all of that work in to the creation of the all inclusive Power Standards. All subject areas in district 112 have been undergoing this process and the library is no different in that School Libraries have value in the school just as math, music, science and reading to name a few.The 2009-2010 school year has produced a document that shows a newly written mission, a set of belief statements, and power standards for each and every grade Kindergarten through eighth grade in the library. This process began last year when two librarians were selected to serve on the District Curriculum Leadership Team: Marci Kulbak of Elm Place and Karen Grost of Indian Trail. The collaboration was not only between those two individuals but was shared with all the librarians.
